The Program
In 2013, Blood Foundation initiated our first Scholarship Program to send 13 children and one adult student to school.
Blood Foundation takes care of all school related expenses, including school fee, school insurance, uniforms, and transportation. Lunch is provided for free by the school. Transportation is by far the greatest expense to the students, who live about 11 kilometers away. By covering these simple expenses, these young children, never before formally registered in an accredited institution, are able to attain a recognized education that will enable them to gain access to far better futures than their parents, who in many cases are uneducated due to the economic and political realities in Burma.
Our funding has come from three sources; private donors, the exchange of prints for donations from the printing workshop run by Ralph Kiggell and Jacqueline Gribbin, and the donations from the sale of a special edition of A Killing Smile by author Christopher G. Moore and Asia Documents Ltd.
The Transition Process
The Child Scholarship Program began after a three-year interim period during which Blood Foundation supported a day-time school, called Daylight School, on one of the orange farms. This school built our students' foundations in Thai language and mathematics. At the end of the three years, Blood Foundation decided to transition our now well-prepared students to government school.
Looking to the Future
Blood Foundation would like to see our student scholars continue through high school, and, if they're willing, on to vocational college or university. This very serious commitment means that we need caring and dedicated people to become sponsors over that time frame.
Would You Like to Become a Child Sponsor?
Becoming a sponsor is a commitment that can be renewed annually. For more information, email , and check out the pdf file below, which breaks down costs and explains the program details. (If you see an error message below, please try reloading the page).
