Blood Foundation Projects

Moonlight Schools - The first initiative of Blood Foundation as a non-profit in Thailand was to start up Moonlight Schools, evening schools located in the villages around Fang. The aim of these projects is to provide supplemental education for ethnic minority children. These children often attend schools nearby but often struggle to adapt to the Thai language setting and Thai classes mandatory in their government schools. Moonlight schools teach Math and Thai reading and Writing.

Child Sponsorship Program- At the close of our Daylight School project in 2013, we phased into the next step of providing these Shan children with an education by awarding externally funded scholarships that cover the cost of transportation, uniforms, and other school fees. The children successfully integrated into the school system in May 2013 and continue to receive Blood Foundation support. The scholarship program was renewed successfully in 2014, 2015, and 2016. This is Blood Foundation's first scholarship project and will serve as a model for future endeavors.

Bright Futures Scholarship - In May of 2016, Blood Foundation launched it's Bright Futures Scholarship Program, which is the first high school and university scholarship program in Blood Foundation history. Many of our students who go through the Moonlight Schools in their villages cultivate a love for learning and want to continue their education past the ninth-grade level- the highest grade offered at the local government school. But in order to go to the high school or vocational training college they must pay steep transportation costs into town, costs that their families cannot afford. The Bright Futures scholarship solves that problem by supporting the transportation, term fee, and uniform costs of former Moonlight School students. In 2016 Bright Futures supported two university students and six high school/ vocational college students. We hope our students will become an example for future generations of students to see that secondary and tertiary education is no longer an impossible dream.

Printmaking Project- In January 2013, professional artists Ralph Kiggell and Jacqueline Gribbintaught printmaking workshops at Daylight School and the Moonlight Schools. The blocks were kept to create replicated prints of the children's work, which in April 2013 were displayed in the H Art Gallery in Chiang Mai. 100% of proceeds from the prints were d to the Child Scholarships to ensure the children have a brighter future.

Annual Winter Clothing Drive
Every year, Blood Foundation raises money to provide all of our students with warm clothing for the winter. Winter temperatures in their mountain villages may reach below zero degrees with windchill and many children get sick during this time. We hope that our small annual contribution, thanks to our sponsors, will help our students have healthier, happier winters.
